Mature Entrepreneur Award

     Congratulations to Marv Gustafson and the entire crew at Northland Machine, Inc. in Grand Rapids, MN. Northland Machine was honored as the recipient of the Joel Labovitz 2003 Mature Entrepreneur Award at a ceremony held at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center on May 21, 2003.
      The UMD Center for Economic Development launched the annual Entrepreneurial Success Awards program in 1993, naming the program after Joel Labovitz in honor of one of the region’s top entrepreneurial success stories. The program seeks to honor entrepreneurs and those individuals who enhance the growth of entrepreneurship in the region.
     The program recognizes seven award categories. Marv Gustafson, owner of Northland Machine, was nominated for the Mature Entrepeneur Award.
     Nominees in this category are required to have principal responsibility for operating their business for a minimum of 15 years and must have demonstrated initiative, success, and creativity in developing, growing, and sustaining a business which continues to have significant impact on the community or region. Ten individuals/companies were nominated for this particular award category, representing a diverse range of industries (e.g. warehouse/distribution, canoe outfitting services, engineering/architectural services, and more).
